At Spahhvelous, I offer the following types of Body Contouring & Massage Therapy:
Lypossage
The Lypossage treatment is a specific blend of massage modalities that derive from physical therapy, including Lymphatic Drainage and Myofascial Release. It was created by Charles W. Wiltsie III, a nationally-recognized massage therapy educator and practitioner. Mr. Wiltsie conducted a year-long study of 100 female subjects that documented the effectiveness of the technique, which was published in Massage and Bodywork magazine in 1999. In the study, notable results included an average loss of almost 1.5" per thigh. Click Here for Lypossage FAQs:
Aromatherapy
Massage therapy is beneficial on its own; however when its used in conjunction with essential oils, these two therapies can be synergistically more beneficial than when theyre performed separately. Aromatherapy massage involves a massage treatment using essential oils. The essential oils which refers to oils that come from the essence of plants - are a little oily, very fragrant, and usually too concentrated to be used undiluted. For this reason essential oils are typically blended with a carrier oil - such as jojoba or grapeseed oil - in order to dilute them so they dont harm the clients skin.
Deep Connective Tissue
Deep connective tissue massage is a form of intense massage that aims to release myofascial (connective tissue) restrictions in the body, and to break up any restrictive scar tissue. It has also been known to help relieve chronic tension, to increase the bodys range of motion, to improve posture and to enhance the natural harmony of the entire body and mind.
Deep Muscle Therapy
Deep muscle therapy is performed by a qualified deep muscle massage therapist in order to help release myofascial restrictions within the body. The theory behind this type of massage is that when chronic knots (also referred to as adhesions) exist within the deep muscle tissues, the bodys natural balance is thrown out of wack. Until the natural balance is restored, injured fiberous tissues can cause chronic joint and muscle pain, poor posture and coordination, as well as a plethora of other health ailments.
Myofasical Release
The term myofascial release is derived from the Latin words myo (or muscle) and fascia (or elastic band). Its no wonder many massage therapists and chiropractors liken the stretching of muscles and ligaments to the stretching of an elastic band.
In practice, Myofascial Release is a gentle therapy, consisting of a mixture of light stretching and massage work. During a session, the therapist will apply hands-on massage strokes in order to release tension from the fibrous bands of the muscles, bones, nerves and joints, by unblocking any scar tissue or adhesions due to injury in the muscles and surrounding tissues.
Pre-Natal Massage
Prenatal massage refers to specific massage techniques that have been shown to reduce pregnancy discomforts and to enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus.
Massage has been known to calm many of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy such as sciatica, swelling, back and neck pain, and stomach upset. Prenatal massage has also been shown to improve physical discomforts by encouraging circulation and by stretching the muscles and joints to their full range of motion to improve skin elasticity and body tone. Studies show that pregnant women who receive regular prenatal massages are more at ease - furthermore relaxing the fetus inside their womb.
Sports Massage
Perhaps the greatest benefit of a sports massage is that it consists of specific components designed to cut down on sports-related injuries. It specifically alleviates muscle tension and inflammation post-event, and provides a warm-up to loosen muscles for amateur and professional athletes pre-event.
One way to encourage muscle repair after training is with sports massage. Sports massage will help release any built up tension and lactic acid in the overworked muscles so that blood and oxygen can return to the muscle and effectively promote muscle repair. Sports massage, if received as part of a sports program, can help an athlete prevent injury due to overuse.
Swedish Massage
Traditional Swedish massage was introduced by Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling, in Stockholm, Sweden in the year 1812. This massage technique is characterized by its firm, yet calming pressure that improves blood circulation, eases muscle tension, and improves flexibility.
Today, a Western-style Swedish massage still employs a series of long, gliding strokes, kneading of the muscles, and vibrational taps that are so common when one thinks of massage. A Swedish masseuse will also create friction and do whats called hacking or tapping across a clients back and shoulders to promote the release of tension. Five basic strokes gliding, kneading, vibrations, friction and hacking are all applied in the direction of the heart in order to encourage blood circulation and the disposal of bodily waste.
